Ergonomics and comfort – obviously they were inspirations for Martin Ballendat while designing the 4ME line. The armchair is a perfect example of how top-grade design can be combined with functionality.
The unique backrest design is one of the most interesting and fascinating elements of the 4ME product range. Besides the design itself takes inspiration from the branches of a tree, it also provides the ulitmate back support.

DESIGN: Martin Ballendat
Martin Ballendat has been a successful designer for 25 years now. Since 1995 he has been running his own design studio in Upper Austria. He has also opened his second studio in Germany. He has been working for famous brands from over 10 countries. His projects have been internationally acclaimed – in his career, he has been given more than 100 awards, including 17 Red Dot awards
Chair base
five-star base made of polyamide (black or white), polished aluminum (chromium-plated) and powder-coated in ALM (metallic version).
Seat
structure made of 7-layer beech plywood with 10,5 mm thickness, covered with foam (density: 40 kg/m3 with 70% increased flexibility), thickness: 20 mm, and foam with a density of 35 kg/m3, thickness: 10 mm. Seat cover made of polypropylene, black or white.
Mechanisms
Synchronous mechanism EPRON SYNCRON PLUS – made of aluminium with plastic elements. Functions:
- free floating possibility,
- backrest and seat tilt synchronously at the rate of 2:1,
- backrest tilt angle of 22° synchronised with seat tilt angle of 11°,
- backrest lock in 5 positions,
- adjustable negative seat angle (-2°) with a button (extra option),
- backrest height adjustment: 60 mm,
- adjustable backrest tilt force with a crank,
- seat depth adjustment: 60 mm (extra option),
- Anti-Shock – a feature protecting the user's back from being hit by the backrest after the lock is released,
- smoothly adjustable chair height with a gas lift.
SELF mechanism with the S-MOVE system. Functions:
- automatic adjustment to the user’s weight (range from 50 kg to 110 kg),
- backrest and seat tilt at the rate of 4:1,
- backrest inclination angle: 18°,
- seat inclination angle: 4.5°,
- backrest lock in 5 positions,
- seat depth adjustment: 53 mm (extra option),
- seat movement: dynamic sitting, movement in 4 directions,

- 4-D in white and alu colours with black pads made of TPE.
Adjustment range:
- 2-D: 100 mm height; 40 mm width adjustment,
- 4-D: 100 mm height; 40 mm width adjustment, pad rotation range +/- 30°, front/back pad movement range: 50 mm.
Fixed – made of PA + GF, pad made of TPE:
- fixed in black, with black pads made of TPE,
- fixed in white, with black pads made of TPE.
Backrest
Backrest – structure made of plastic (mix of PP and TPE) and covered with foam, density: 25 kg/m3 – thickness: 20 mm at the front and 6 mm at the back.
Mesh backrest – backrest structure made of polyamide with glass fibre (30%), backrest connector support made of a steel flat bar with 8 mm thickness. The backrest has a height adjustment range of 60 mm. Mesh – material: 66% polyester, 34% polyamide, approvals: flammability – EN 1021 Part 1, cigarette; abrasion 200,000 cycles – EN ISO 12947–2.
Lumbar support (upholstered backrest) – lumbar support adjustment – Schukra® mechanism (front–rear, adjustment range: about 20 mm). Lumbar support (mesh backrest) – lumbar support adjustment (up&down, adjustment range: 53 mm).
Headrest
upholstered headrest for the model with the upholstered backrest, height adjustment (adjustment range: 65 mm) and headrest angle adjustment; mesh – for the mesh backrest model, adjustable headrest height (adjustment range: 65 mm) and angle.
